Free Things to Do in Perth
Not everyone has buckets of money to spend on their Perth holidays. Perhaps you spent it all on gas money on the drive over, or maybe your ticket on the Indian Pacific train set you back more than you would have liked (but that sleeper cabin was well worth it, right?). Whatever the reason, you don’t have to worry! Perth has plenty of free activities to partake in that will still help you see the city in all its natural glory. I would actually argue that the best parts of Perth altogether, outside of good food and drink establishments, would be enjoying the natural surrounds.

Kings Park
Kings Park is set on a hilltop that overlooks the city of Perth and the Swan River. It is the perfect place to lounge in the shade on a sunny day, go for a walk, have a picnic, meet with friends or stop off for a coffee. Best of all, Kings Park is a free attraction for all to enjoy.
Federation Walk
The Federation Walk is located within Kings Park. This treetop walk lets visitors walk amongst tall Eucalyptus with sweeping views of the Swan River and views of wildflower gardens.
Watch Sunset from Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe Beach, located in the Perth suburb of Cottesloe, is well-known for its colorful sunsets taking place over the Indian Ocean. I took an evening to see what all the fuss was about to be met with one of my most enjoyable sunsets to date.
Take a Walk Around Fremantle
Fremantle may have quite the cafe culture, inviting passersby in for a coffee or snack, but you really don’t need to spend any money to enjoy the cute little suburb of Fremantle. From Victorian style mansions, side-street cafes, a wharf lined with fish ‘n’ chips shops and restaurants – walking around is just as much a pleasure (on a nice day) than something you have to pay for.
Take a Free Bus Ride
Perth offers travelers in the Free Transit Zone of the CBD access to a CAT bus (read more about getting around Perth). There are four CAT bus lines, each a different color, that allows all travelers a free ride – some of which stop near major tourist attractions. Hop a free ride on a CAT bus and see where it takes you!
The Museum of Western Australia
The Perth brance of the Museum of Western Australia offers free entry, although a donation is recommended. It is here that visitors can get a view of Western Australia life from the dinosaurs to today. Gain insight on local Aboriginal culture, as well as local plant life.
Art Gallery of Western Australia
The Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth technically offers free entry, but they strongly suggest a donation. The gallery specializes in art of Western Australia and Indigenous art, in addition to art from around the world.
Fremantle Roundhouse
The Fremantle Roundhouse is the oldest public building in Western Australia. It was originally used as a gaol until 1886, after which point it changed roles quite often. Today, the Roundhouse is run by volunteers, is free to visit and features a cannon shooting at 1pm daily.
