Every October Sydney comes alive with festivals. The below are some of the loved up major annual events. The dates listed here are for 2007, however, these weekends generally remain constant each year.
Darling Harbour Fiesta
Mariachis, capoeiristas and flamenco… Darling Harbour is going light up and dance to the Latin beat. Featuring over 70 performances, the Harbour will be swaying rythmically for the entire weekend. Come tap your toes or learn how to salsa, tango or samba in the Palm Grove during the day and try out your swanky new moves each night at the fiesta starting at 6:30. In classic Sydney Style, fireworks on Friday the 28th will kick off the festivities. lively and magical. See www.darlingharbour.com for full details.
Manly Jazz Festival
Sept 29-Oct 1
Come across to the lovely seaside village of Manly. Touted as seven miles from Sydney and a million miles from care. Fresh from the Rat race of Sydney, the Ferry ride over will sooth your inner beast. I’ve heard tales of dolphins in the harbour recently. Keep an eye out! More than just the normally attractive Manly Beach attractions, this weekend come hear the smooth beats of Jazz in the 30th annual festival. Stages will be all over the main corso area and in the local pubs. Festivities to kicking off at 11:30 am Saturday. One of the Highlights: there is going to be a club jam session Monday at 6:00 pm at the awesome new shore club up on their top floor. It is one of the cruisiest places to pass an afternoon that I know of.
Art and About
Sydney is already a gorgeous city, but the Art and About exhibits really brings an excitement to the city. Cherished by locals and providing unexpected delights for visitors, the annual festival adds that extra magic sparkle to the Emerald City. Some of the magic can be seen as artwork featured as flags all around the city, projected art at Circular Quay, the much anticipated Sydney Life photo competition in Hyde Park, and grab a cold beverage at the Bulletin Bar near Circular Quay. It will be hosting live bands, DJs , projections and visual art sat oct 6, and Wed the 10-Saturday the 13th.
Surry Hills Festival
Sat. Oct 13th
This quirky inner city suburb is a little grungy, a little edgy and a whole lot of cool. They will be hosting their annual festival to celebrate inner city living on Sat Oct the 13th. Starting at 10:00 am, there will be market stalls in Prince Edward Park, 5 stages for local musicians, face apinting, rides, and the ever popular Dog Show Off.
Danks Street Festival

Just down the Road from Surry Hills, the party continues in one of Sydney’s most interesting upcoming inner city neighborhoods, Waterloo. Danks Street renowned for its bars, cafe’s and art galleries will be celebrating it’s annual festival. Fresh produce markets, entertainment stages with cutting edge musicians and DJs and a Professional Skate park competition are all highlights.
