Getting from Brisbane to Auckland

auckland at nightThere are two basic ways of getting from Brisbane to Auckland: a quick flight or a long boat ride. Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland in Australia, is a popular hub for both travel around the state and for hitching rides to nearby countries, like New Zealand. Auckland, being the New Zealand capital, is on the North Island and makes for the perfect entry point into Australia’s sister country.

Getting from Brisbane to Auckland via Plane

Direct flights to Auckland from Brisbane arrive in around 3 hours and 10 minutes depending on weather conditions. Direct flights operate 6 or 7 times per day and can be completed on Emirates, Qantas, Air New Zealand, China Airlines and Virgin Australia. Do remember that this is an international flight. Be sure to pack properly and have the proper visa regulations addressed in advance of your trip. Getting from Brisbane to Auckland via Boat

Take the more scenic and long way to Auckland by setting off from Brisbane on a boat! A number of cruise operators visit the many ports of Australia before heading off to New Zealand. If this is route you are interested in taking, I suggest having a look at the cruising Australia page which mentions the tour companies like P&O or Princess. In order to head to Auckland via boat or cruise, one will need a significant amount of free time for the journey alone, but it is surely worthwhile.

For a more unique adventure, why not look into riding on a freighter boat? Surprisingly, the onboard facilities sometimes contain pools and gyms with studio apartment style accommodation. If you fear the cruise ship lifestyle, then a freighter ship could be a nice alternative.
