dsc02388.JPGHave you always had a bit of a romantic eye for the ocean? Always dreamed of sailing away into the sunset? Envisioned yourself part of a racing team battling the elements aboard a racing yacht? Desired the glamour, the fatigue, the exhilaration, and the emotion of watching the sail billow and the soundless speed of the water disappearing under the bow?
Here’s your chance. Spirit was designed and skippered by Iain Murray as the “people’s challenger” for the America’s Cup race in San Diego in 1992. Spirit boasts 300 square metres of working sail area and carries an enormous 500 square metre spinnaker. She has had a few upgrades since her racing days to accomodate cruising in Sydney Harbour. She can carry 35 passengers and all guest may participate as much or as little in the sailing of the vessel as they wish.
No experience necessary. The crew is there to help you learn to trim the sails, wind the grinding pedestals, or even take the helm. Scheduled Cruises leave from Pyrmont on Fridays and Saturdays. Bookings in advance are essential. Enclosed soft soled shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a jacket are recommended. Racing programs also available.
