Tourism has an impact on everyone in Vanuatu, either directly or indirectly. As we enter the year of tourism, the industry asks us to think, talk and plan for tourism.
A new breed of backpackers may soon be joining the romantic couples and snorkel-seeking families that have traditionally bulked up the tourist market in Vanuatu. Once pegged as long-haired, sandal wearing, shoestring-budget travellers trying to make their way across vast tracts of land and sea on six dollars a day, the definition of the humble backpacker is evolving into a broad category of travellers seeking to immerse themselves in local cultures.
