Australia has downgraded its travel warning for Turkey, but still urged travellers to avoid the country’s southern border regions with Syria and Iraq.

Too bad, because one of the most interesting spots is the town of Sanliurfa, down along the border with Syria. Nearby are the mysterious ‘beehive houses’ of Harran.
