Lions are Champions

Great victory for the boys today. Never gave Collingwood a sniff and dominated every area of the park. Brisbane lead for the entire game and really opened up a big lead at the end of the second quarter.

Simon Black won the Norm Smith medal for best on ground, but you could have easily given it to Mal Michaels or the big ruckman Keating. Jason Akermanis was an opportunist for 5 goals, but I’m still not his biggest fan.

Either way, a great win in front of 70,000+ Victorians and great to see Eddie McGuire having it stuffed in his face.

G’Day Chris,

It was a superb match. Didn’t the boys play well. I liked seeing McGuire et al having there smiles wiped right off their choppers!.

Makes it worth watching, doesn’t it? Interesting that even tho the Lions have been so dominating over the last few years, you don’t get the feeling that people hate them like a Manchester United or the New York Yankees. In fact, I think Collingwood comes in for more of that sort of treatment and they haven’t won anything for several years. Or maybe it’s just by association with Eddie McGuire.

What a fucking corker!!

I’m not even a big AFL [or any league, really] follower in an absolute fanatical sense, but always like to see the home team do well, etc… BUT, with all the hype about how Collingwood were going to rectify last year’s score and were clearly ‘the favourites’, all of a sudden my Brisbane pride [of (the) Lions, boom boom ch'ching!] came out and I was sooooooooo excited/determined they’d win!

By the time I’d thrown down my first schooner and the atmosphere in the place I was drinking in was already ‘going off’, I was ‘pumped’… it was weird, I don’t normally get ‘that’ stupid about these things, but I was positively beaming!

By the time the first quarter was over, I knew we’d do it! Thought it’d be closer/down to the wire, but knew we’d win! Being the so-called ‘underdogs’ yet coming out hitting them hard, it was magic! And, it just got better from then…

What did I love the most though? The gobby-verging-on-abusive Collingwood supporter in front of us who was giving it his all [as you would!] and, with a whole room of people shouting back and pretty much laughing at him [every time Collingwood made an error] by the match’s end, he whimpered off with his tail between his legs.

Go the Lions!

Still recovering Ging, and no chance of photos today! Phew!
