Sydneysiders clean up their act

It was once dubbed Sin City, but new drinking and smoking laws are turning Sydneysiders into saints.

A cigarette at the pub, a Christmas tinny on Bondi Beach and even the traditional Aussie shout could be outlawed under new regulations proposed by local authorities this year.

“NSW is becoming the no-can-do state,” said NSW Council for Civil Liberties president Cameron Murphy, amid debate about whether wowsers are taking over the nation’s biggest city.

From Sydneysiders clean up their act

I don’t know about that….there is still plenty of can-do in NSW….

That’s crap they’re thinking of fining people for gettng a round in, just cos one of their mates is already pissed. I mean, how do you police that? Bar staff have enough to do already. And who’s to judge who’s pissed and who’s not? Obviously, if some bloke is being a dickhead, he’ll get turfed from the pub whether he’s drunk or not. Don’t punish his mates as well unless they’re being dickheads too. People have to accept some personal responsibility, both for the amount they drink and their behaviour. Making someone else responsible (the bar/security staff) and threatening people with fines when all they want to do is have fun is just stupid.
