It seemed like a good idea at the time but Ciska White has been ruing the decision ever since.
About a month ago the 24-year-old UTS communications student picked up a mattress off the street for her new Bondi apartment.
It looked clean, felt comfortable and, she reasoned, it would save her hundreds of dollars.
But two weeks later she got a shock.
“I woke up one day and I was just covered in bites - it was like a minefield of bites. I had 71 bites just on my left hand and that wasn’t even the worst part of my body,” she said.
