Backpacker killer loses appeal

THE man jailed for the murder of English backpacker Caroline Stuttle in Queensland lost an appeal today against his conviction.
Ian Douglas Previte, 32, was convicted last October of murdering Ms Stuttle, 19, when he robbed her and threw her off a bridge in Bundaberg, north of Brisbane, on April 10, 2002.

He was sentenced to life in prison.

In the Court of Appeal today, Chief Justice Paul de Jersey, Justice Cate Holmes and Justice Bruce McPherson found there were no grounds for quashing Previte’s conviction.
