Australia and the World Cup
In less than two and a half months, Australia is taking on the World Cup!
Unfortunately for them, they’re going at it with Brazil, as well as Croatia and Japan in Group F.
You can follow the team on the Australia World Cup Blog over at BotosnAll’s World Cup site. Recent posts have included Best Australian Never to Play at a World Cup? and The Overseas Roundup.

Photos Outrage Australian Sports Officials
Really, what were these people thinking? Since when has playing with guns become cool and funny again? Photographs of a trainer conducting mock executions of young Australian swimmers at a military-style boot camp prompted outrage from athletic officials on Wednesday.
The images published in local newspapers earlier this week showed a trainer holding an imitation 9 mm pistol to the heads of kneeling swimmers at a camp being held outside Melbourne.

Cycling’s sisters come to grief
Cycling’s sisters come to grief after a tragic accident killed one of their teammates and seriously injured five others after a car careened off the road. The members of the Australian National Cycling Team were on a training ride in Europe when an 18-year-old novice driver swerved and struck the team. The driver was not speeding or under the influence, and is expected to receive a suspended sentence in what is being called a tragic accident. The injuries the women received were very severe and the scene was described as gruesome. I can’t imagine …

State of Origin III - Game Time
QLD nearly turned attack into tragedy with a dodgy kick by Lockyer run back by Minichello for an almost certain score. A great tackle by Matty Bowen to save a try, but how did QLD not score?! So much pressure but great NSW defense. Love this stuff!
After all the early pressure on both lines, NSW comes away with 2 points from a weak penalty. The crowd is starting to get back into it with cries of “Queenslander!!” My brother and a one of my buddies are a t this game, no doubt yelling their lungs out. 14 minutes gone.

Australia in the World Cup
Sure, they’re not expected to make it past the first round, but Australia is sending a team to the 2006 World Cup! They’ve only made it two times before, so qualifying was a tough road. Looks like they might not have to worry about it in 2022, however - they’re hoping to host the Cup.
No matter what team you’re rooting for in ‘06, you can find info on them over at the oft-updated World Cup Blog.

Aussie sportsman happy about losing finger
The winner of the bizarre competition this month goes to the Aussie rugby player to decided to have his finger amputated, rather than the bones fused together. I can only imagine what will happen when people realize that oh, wait, he’s not a pro making millions a year and instead of being ‘that awesome rugby player’ he will instead be known as ‘that crazy rugby player that chopped off his finger.’ Best of luck to ya, mate. State of Origin III - Second Half
NSW score. 24-0.
Early pressure from QLD came to naught and once again NSW go down the other end of the field and Andrew Johns pulls a few strings and the Blues score. Can’t see QLD coming back from here. They just haven’t shown anything that makes me think they can score.
NSW score. 28-0.
Sloppy play by QLD backs leads toa dropped ball, picked up by NSW and run back for a try in the corner. This is turning into a slaughter and it’s not pretty. The only thing worse than watching this train wreck is having it commentated by Gus Gould, the smarmiest, smuggest NSW ex-coach that no one likes.
