How to Get around Brisbane, Maps and Transport Options

dsc01324.JPGFirst things first, Brisbane is NOT on the coast! Many people arrive and are disappointed to find out that the buzzing little city of Bris-Vegas is not on the coast. It is about an hour in land built on a river.

That said it is still a beautiful and fun place to visit. So close to the infamous Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise and Byron Bay, many people fly into Brisbane, and then catch transport from there.

So how do you get around Brisbane and Queensland you ask? The following links provide schedules, routes, and fee information. Click Here to get a map of Brisbane.

Queensland- Summafielddayze Dance Festival- January 2007

dsc01647.JPG Hey! if you are in Queensland in January- It will be time to slap on the sunscreen and reach out for the sunshine! “Summafielddayze dance festival a non stop musical, cultural and aural experience of epic and inimitable proportion.” Featuring such Artists as Bob Sinclair, Mylo, Plump DJs, Kid Kenobi, Darren Emeraon, Hybrid and many more it is bound to be groovy and just perfect for a little “Alternative” entertainment. I would hazard a guess to say there will be fire twirling, people with no shoes, heavy base …

Talk of the North

Patrick ‘Rusty’ Smith and his 1972 Ute are the Talk of the North for winning the ‘feral ute’ contest. Smith, a drifter, invested $700. He’s won $1,400 at contests so far. The pink machine definitely turns head (pic with link).

State of Origin III - Game Time

origin-chrisQLD nearly turned attack into tragedy with a dodgy kick by Lockyer run back by Minichello for an almost certain score. A great tackle by Matty Bowen to save a try, but how did QLD not score?! So much pressure but great NSW defense. Love this stuff!

After all the early pressure on both lines, NSW comes away with 2 points from a weak penalty. The crowd is starting to get back into it with cries of “Queenslander!!” My brother and a one of my buddies are a t this game, no doubt yelling their lungs out. 14 minutes gone.

Outback Australia, The Birdsville Races

header.jpgAre you in Australia and looking for something unique and different to do? Right up there with the Lightning Ridge Great Goat Races and the Parkes Elvis Festival, The Birdsville Races are quintessentially Aussie. The Aussies looooove their horse racing. The glamour, the excitement, the money, the thunder of the hooves, and the cold refreshment of the booze.

Birdsville is one of the loneliest Outback places on the continent with about 100 people usually residing in the region along the “Birdsville Trak.” Over the famous race weekend …

Shark Feeding Frenzy near Brisbane

Wow - I have never heard of folks closing a beach cuz of a Shark Feeding Frenzy like they just recently did near Brisbane. Sharks and travel to places like Australia and South Africa beaches are something that I hear people being scared about frequently. I have been to both places a few times and locals don’t usually appear to be too scared of them. Use common sense and avoid beaches that have shark feeding frenzies going on nearby and you’ll most likely be ok. When weighing the risks, getting bitten by a …

State of Origin III - Second Half

NSW score. 24-0.
Early pressure from QLD came to naught and once again NSW go down the other end of the field and Andrew Johns pulls a few strings and the Blues score. Can’t see QLD coming back from here. They just haven’t shown anything that makes me think they can score.

NSW score. 28-0.
Sloppy play by QLD backs leads toa dropped ball, picked up by NSW and run back for a try in the corner. This is turning into a slaughter and it’s not pretty. The only thing worse than watching this train wreck is having it commentated by Gus Gould, the smarmiest, smuggest NSW ex-coach that no one likes.
