Snowy Mountains- Wildbrumby Schnapps

dsc02518-1.JPGThe Snowy Mountains are in the Southern part of New South Wales. They are the home of the highest peak in OZ, and are a region worth exploring during all seasons. A Brumby is a wild horse. A lot that see themselves and “battlers”, the Aussies love their highly independent bands of wild horses. If you’ve haven’t yet- you should watch the classic The Man From Snowy River an entertaining flick, it embodies the feelings of outback frontier Australia and also showcases the romantic view of the horses. ‘Mountain bred and mountain born’ I think the famous line from the movie (which is based on a poem) goes.

About 15 minutes down the Alpine Way heading west from Jindabyne (Jindy) is the Wildbrumby Schnappery. Amongst the barren rock strewn Snowy mountain foothills- this little oasis has free tastings, continental cafe, artists studio and a sculpture garden. There’s a saying if it holds still long enough- the Swiss will try to shnapp it. Well I’m pretty sure Monika was Austrian and Brad Australian- but you get the picture. Regardless of pedigree. They have formed a world class schnappery with many varieties to chose from.

Sydney- The Manly Wharf Hotel

wharf The Wharf Bar- shiny slick, hip, and ever so convieniant. Lovingly known by locals as The Wharf Bar , the actual name is the Manly Wharf Hotel. The coolest new lounge music plays discreetly above the roar of the afterwork crowd that gathers each night at this perfect stop just steps from the ferry. Signature cocktails, beer, wine, a new eating establishment, and the outside Jetty Bar (which actually is on the deck over the water) all are designed to entertain and allow for the appreciation of Manly’s …

Sydney- Northern Beaches- The Arms

arms
The Newport Arms is a Northern Beaches institution. A massive rambling “Hotel” or huge pub/bistro. ‘The Arms’ also has accommodation and overlooks Pittwater Bay on the west side of the Northern Beaches Penninsula. An ideal spot for Sunday Afternoon drinks, the outdoor area is enjoyable.

Oz Survival Guide to Food- Cheap Sushi

Food, among other things, in Australia is fairly expensive. One easy source of nosh that is available in most parts of Australia is Cheap Sushi! This is not really the sushi you are thinking of. I will certainly agree that the idea of fast food raw fish is a little disconcerting.

Darwin- Restaurant Review: Roma Bar

One for the girls and the arts community- seriously though- this modern place would appeal to most serving brekkie and lunch there are community events posters all over the walls and windows.

Sydney- Belgian Beer Cafe

musselsEpoch- Moooosels from Bruussellls!
There are 2 Belgian Beer Cafe’s in Sydney- One in Cammeray- (which was said by Australian Cosmo to have the most attractive eligible bachelors in all of Sydney) and one in The Rocks. They have beer bigger than your head and pots of mussels that just won’t stop. Please note…the Belgian Beer Cafe’s are not to be confused with the two Bavarian Beer Cafe’s also in Sydney… but they are a story for a different day.

I’ve got to say- I have never been a …

Northern Territory- “Doing The Triangle”

dsc00051.JPG When visiting the Northern Territory- a very common route is called The Triangle This is basically Darwin to Jabiru to Pine Creek or Katherine and back up to Darwin via Litchfied Park. When taking on this Great driving route many people are apprehensive envisioning vast kilometers of nothingness.

Sydney- Northern Beaches -Cafe Ibiza!

ibiza A trip up the Northern Beaches is not complete without a trip to Avalon. Famous for the worlds slowest pedestrians- Avalon works on its own sense of time. Unconcerned and unhurried pedestrians wreak havoc with the local traffic. A spectacular place to watch the ensuing pandemonium of overly polite drivers and unrushed pedestrians is from Café Ibiza.

Darwin- Cavenagh Street Attractions

Cavenagh Street is two over from the Backpacker hangout/Entertainment district of Mitchell Street. Watch out for… or… check out the small “adult entertainment” district plunked right between the two (depending on your preference). There are many fun shops and cafe’s on Cavenagh- as well as the post office and a good Woolworths (”Woolies” = grocery store). Mostly a business street- here are three unique and useful places to check out…

Darwin- Restaurant Review: Relish

Relish

An awesome kitchy litte café reminiscent of Santa Fe. There are wood framed ceiling hangings, dirt red walls, local art, and an eclectic selection of collectibles including an R2D2, mini deer head, dash board, and gold high-heels all hanging from the menu boards.
