Alice Springs Dry River Boat Race

wwkayak.jpgAlice Springs has a TV show (The Alice), is near Uluru, and is famous for it’s quirky festival- the Henley on the Todd Boat Regatta. The Aussies have such a great sense of humour and love “taking the piss” out of themselves. The Dry River Regatta is a perfect example of this. The fact that the nearest body of water is 1500K away doesn’t seem to hamper the boat race in the slightest…except in 1993 when the event had to be cancelled due to flooding….Bring on the water cannons! …

Outback Australia, The Birdsville Races

Right up there with the Lightning Ridge Great Goat Races and the Parkes Elvis Festival, The Birdsville Races are quintessentially Aussie. The Aussies looooove their horse racing. The glamour, the excitement, the money, the thunder of the hooves, and the cold refreshment of the booze.

Birdsville is one of the loneliest Outback places on the continent with about 100 people usually residing in the region along the “Birdsville Trak.” Over the famous race weekend …

Sydney in October, a month not to be missed

dsc00003.JPGI know October probably isn’t the first month of the year you would think of to come visit Sydney. BUT! it shoudl be! October really is one of the best months of the year. Spring is just kicking into high gear, and with it- the party season. People are just creeping out from under the blanket of winter gloom and emerge straight onto a picnic blanket with a glass of bubbly already in hand. The Aussies love nothing more than a good outdoor reason to celebrate. October …
