The Last Train To Freo
About a Suburb of Perth- Fremantle- lovingly known as Freo, the Critics loved this movie- It is an Australian film produced in Australia by Australians.
The Synopsis:
“At midnight, on a hot summers night, two ex cons board the last train to Fremantle. Bored, restless and looking for trouble, they start to poke fun at their mind numbing existence. Until a beautiful young law student, steps into the carriage, alone, and seemingly unaware that the guards are on strike.
But there’s more to this young woman than meets the eye. And when two other passengers join the train further down the line, the balance of power takes an unexpected twist.
An integral part of doing The Triangle is Cooinda. Cooinda – even though it is one of the more substantial dots on the map- is only an aboriginal cultural center, resort, and gas station. There is no town. Granted- it is a nice resort. Cooinda is known as the Home of Yellow Waters. All of the Wildlife Cruises on the Yellow Waters leave from here. Cruises run between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Aboriginal art in the Northern Territory, and indeed in most markets around Australia everywhere. As an art form, it stands out for its unique interpretation of the world and its forms.
While the climate is tropical this is not a resort town. Darwin is still a city and the most metropolitan one around. The dress is casual…kind of…
Want to be part of the cool crowd? Want to fit in like a local? Seriously- to go to the beach, to a rugby game, to the grocery, on the train… you can’t live without…
The ARIAs are the Aussie equivalent of the Grammies, except they are riddled with all kinds of goofy drunken behaviour by celebs and fans alike. The TV generally cronicals past silliness and speculates what the newest faux pas of the year will be. Over all they are pretty fun to watch on TV, but, I have several friends that have scored tickets in the past to attend and they loved it!
There are several Aussie bands that have really made a name for themselves this year- globally- such as Wolfmother. If you get a chance to see them tour- Have a ball!
This year the ARIAs will be held October 29th.

This place is a Culture Vulture Backpackers dream. Ah, this place is just down right cool no matter who you are quite honestly. Where else can you get a Laksa+beer+theatre for $24! The Old Fitzroy is a fabulously seedy dingy little place that has creeky dark wood stairs, tiny little hall ways, 1970 furniture, pool tables, a whole thai kitchen smashed into a room that is about 1 meter square tucked under the stairs, and a theatre that produces plays from the next generation of upcoming writers!
Driving drum and didgeridoo heavy beats complemented by delicate flute and dulcimer kisses, Jabaru is an energizing two person band- husband and wife team Rodger and Rene Bradshaw. Between them, they make more sound than seems possible for two people…
Happy International Talk like a Pirate Day! While this post has little to do with Getting Around Australia- it is Promoting the awareness of an International Holiday that is little known in the Land Down Under as well as giving most people a little giggle. September 19th- is as most of you know- International Talk like a Pirate Day. While the Holiday has been around for a while- It was made famous by a column from Dave Berry. Talk like a Pirate day is a vastly usefull and amusing holiday- to give you a better idea of what I mean…
Coeliac/Gluten Free General Note- While almost all of the Cafes/restraurants were knowledeable about Gluten Free requirements and quite good at working with you on gluten free products, the supermarkets have a very slim selection.
