Anyone who’s not from Australia thinks those kangaroos are just soooo cute… Until they jump out in front of your car at night, that is. Kings of the Sun points out that “kangaroos can pack more than a punch!” It’s certainly something to be aware of if you’re driving late at night!
Lancashirehotpot may have been joking when he said he wanted to get from Sydney to Melbourne by donkey, but he is looking for some comparison info on taking the train or the bus.

Gene Jackitt is looking at making the trip from Darwin to Broome around the end of February or the beginning of March next year - and is looking for advice both on the amount of time needed for the journey, and about the weather. A trip up the Northern Beaches is not complete without a trip to Avalon. Famous for the worlds slowest pedestrians- Avalon works on its own sense of time. Unconcerned and unhurried pedestrians wreak havoc with the local traffic. A spectacular place to watch the ensuing pandemonium of overly polite drivers and unrushed pedestrians is from Café Ibiza.

One thing definitely worth a splurge of your trip money is a flight over Kakadu. All of the local people I encountered on my trip recommended it and they were absolutely right. Driving through Kakadu does little to give you the same perspective on the terrain, the interaction of the natural forces, and the sheer size of the park.

The Basin
New South Wales has a very organized set of national parks that are complete with cooking, shower, and camping facilites. Among the parks I have visited, The Basin is a stand out. If you live in or around the Sydney area it is the easiest way to get completely OUT of the city in under an hour.

What a find! This sparkling swimming center is built right on the cliff overlooking the Darwin Harbour up in the suburb of Nightcliff. At the corner of Nightcliff and Causarian Roads, It is virtually unpopulated. The pool facilities include swimming, lap lanes and a beautiful children’s pool with an Italian style fountain in the middle.
