The Newport Arms is a Northern Beaches institution. A massive rambling “Hotel” or huge pub/bistro. ‘The Arms’ also has accommodation and overlooks Pittwater Bay on the west side of the Northern Beaches Penninsula. An ideal spot for Sunday Afternoon drinks, the outdoor area is enjoyable.
There is a play area for the chidren, a “grill your own” BBQ pit (for steaks you buy at the pub), a huge outdoor screen to show local sporting events and plenty of seating. There are several bars to keep lines to a minimum. Indoors there is a pokey room, TAB Betting area, the accommodation and the fine dining room. Lining the hallways are historical pictures showing the many facelifts the Arms has received over the years.
Food in the Bistro was average and a bit on the expensive side as were the drinks. The menu nor the counter staff was particularly accomodating to people with food intolerances. The draw of this place though is it’s location for sundowners along with the many events and amenities it offers. A pleasant but not amazing night out.

Great review. The comments about the service/menu/prices are accurate, but I’d still go back - which seems to be what you were saying. As a visitor to Australia, I found it to be a great place to stop while exploring the northern beaches with a local friend. It made for a fantastic “date spot” because there were a variety of things going on - nice view, ample gambling opportunities, nearby beaches, sports on several screens, etc.
Not a place I’d go every week, but definitely somewhere I’ll stop next time I’m in the area. Like you said, a good place for Sunday drinks.
